California Association Mortgage Professionals (CAMP) is a trade organization within the State of California that assists mortgage professionals with opportunities to better serve their clients. They also provide important information about new regulations and advocate for the mortgage professional at the legislative level.

General Information About CAMP

The California Association of Mortgage Professionals is organized into 14 regional chapters throughout the state of California. Each CAMP chapter has it’s own board of directors and local volunteer members that work with local mortgage professionals. CAMP chapters provide forums in which members can meet and discuss relevant industry news and events. Each year CAMP holds it’s Association’s Annual Convention, a Sales and Marketing Conference and a Summer Convention.

Mission Statement and Purpose

When you visit CAMP’s website (thecampsite.org) you’ll first see a welcome page that has the organization’s Mission Statement and Purpose Statement. Here is what it says:

“Mission: CAMP’s mission is to advocate on behalf of responsible mortgage professionals and consumers for the availability of affordable financing, while promoting expert knowledge, accountability, sound lending, and ethical conduct throughout the mortgage industry.”

“Purpose: The California Association of Mortgage Professionals (CAMP) serves as a forum for financial education, community outreach, innovation, networking, and legislative and regulatory advocacy.  CAMP also provides exclusive benefits and public relations for our members.”

As you can read the organization believes in providing important information, education, community outreach and advocacy to “responsible” mortgage professionals. The group is open to all types of mortgage professionals including Loan Officers that work for Mortgage Brokers, Banks and Direct Lenders.

Membership

This is a dues-paying organization and the annual amount is $249 per year for the “Professional” level, $169.00 per year for the “Associate” level, $199.00 per year for the Affiliate level and $79 per year for the “Support Staff” level. They have three additional levels that are more geared to the corporate level: “Statewide Premium”, “Statewide Plus” and “Statewide”. Amounts range from $2,000 to $22,500.

Professional Membership are for those that are managers, owners, and brokers. These individuals have a license to operate a mortgage company in the state of California and can serve on the State Board of Directors.

Associate Membership is for Loan Originators, Loan Officers or Loan Consultants who work for a mortgage company in the state of California. These individuals have a license to operate as a Mortgage Loan Originate (MLO).

Affiliate and Support Staff Member are generally non MLO licensed professionals that work within the mortgage industry. Those people would include appraisers, title officers, escrow officers, attorney’s, administrative staff and processors. While some of these people will have a license to operate (ie Appraiser) they don’t have a license to operate as a Mortgage Loan Originator.

CAMP Celebrates Thirty Years

In 2020, CAMP will celebrate thirty years! They will be celebrating this achievement at their annual ‘Summer CAMP event” event from July 12, 2020 – July 14, 2020.

This strong and relevant organization will provide great opportunities for many more years. If you are a Mortgage Loan Originator or someone who works within the mortgage industry we would suggest you consider joining CAMP. It’s a great way to support an organization that is dedicated to helping those within the mortgage profession. They work closely with organizations like NAMB (National Association of Mortgage Brokers) and together they work towards advocating for mortgage professionals at the national level.
