Cayucos is a small-unincorporated beach town in San Luis County, California. The town has less than 3000 residents and was founded in 1867 by Captain James Cass. Cayucos gets its name from the Hispanic version of the Chumash word for “Canoe.” The town itself is only 3.5 square miles of which 0.4 square miles is water.
Cayucos is a town that feels as though you have stepped back in time. Life moves slowly in this little town and that is just the way that the residents like it. Cayucos has been considered one of the last historic California beach towns.

Cayucos has the atmosphere of a small coastal town where most of the residents own their own homes. A good share of the population is made up of young professionals and retirees.
One of the best things about living in Cayucos is that you can see the ocean from any location in town, which means that every almost home and business has an ocean view.

Every spring the town holds a Sea Glass festival in which local artisans sell their beautiful Sea glass art to both locals and visitors. There is also a range of other activities, live music, and the festival kicks off with a Mermaid ball.
There is an antique fair twice a year, where you can find some great deals. There are also 9 beautiful murals scattered about the town.
The town is extremely dog friendly and there is only a small percentage of families with children under the age of 18 living in Cayucos.
