Kettleman City is a small unincorporated town located in Kings County in Central California. It is located about two miles north of Interstate 5, also called the West Side Freeway, along California State Highway 41. Kettleman City and the area Kettleman Hills was named after a pioneer who settled the area and raised cattle and sheep in the area, Dave Kettleman.
The name was changed over time when a real estate developer named Manford Brown founded the City of Kettleman City in 1929 by donating land for a school and church, the library was founded the year later. The Post Office was opened in 1929 with its founding.
Transportation in the area is critical to those who may be staying there or traveling throughout Central California. Thankfully Kettleman City is served by an Amtrak Thruway Motorcoach Service between Hanford and Paso Robles.
Kings Area Rural Transit:
The town is also serviced by KART, the Kings Area Rural Transit system via multiple bus stations between and Dial-A-Ride. As previously mentioned Kettleman City is only a couple of miles from Interstate 5 giving an easy on and easy off way to travel out of the area it takes about an hour and a half to Bakersfield.
With and California State Highway 41 running through a town called Brown Street it’s about an hour north to Fresno.

Kettleman City’s main sources for commerce are agriculture and the service industry. With the completion of the California Aqueduct in the area, the town became an agricultural community. With the completion of the Interstate, a lot of fast food and small retail establishments are linked to the highway nearby.
There are also shipping hubs for XPO Logistics, FedEx, and UPS between the Interstate and the town. There are no full-size grocery stores in the area, meaning you will have to travel to get many staples. In the middle between Interstate 5 and Kettleman City, there is a service station for a Chevron company pipeline.
Another large employer in the area Waste Management hosts the Kettleman Hills Hazardous Waste Facility to the southwest of town about three miles off of Interstate 5.

Almost all residents in the Kettleman City area live in the 1.75 square mile area that is the actual Kettleman City. There is no real split in neighborhoods or areas outside of the City for the region as it is surrounded by farms growing things like pistachios.
The streets in Kettleman City are fairly wide but host no sidewalks or curbs which may be a large change if you are not from the area. Between General Petroleum Avenue and Standard Oil Avenue, there is a park that is almost in the Center of the City geographically and across the street from Adelante High School, the highest level of education available in Kettleman City.
The four streets that box Kettleman City out are Edward Street in the north, Carter Street in the east, General Petroleum Avenue in the South, and 1st Street in the West.
This is a very small community but you are never far from the edge of town.
