Woodland, California is the County seat of Yolo County and is a mere 15 miles northwest of Sacramento with a population of fewer than 56,000. This city traces its roots back to the 1850s when California first became a state.

In the 1860s the county seat was moved to Woodland and has remained there ever since and the city was incorporated in 1871. From its inception, Woodland has grown and continues to grow. Here in the 21st century, Woodland has added several chain stores and new restaurants as well as a new courthouse.

The Local Economy:

Most of Woodland’s economy is based around agriculture. In fact; Yolo county is one of the largest crop producers in the state. Along with agriculture transportation remains large in Woodland as well as this city branching out and Modular homes are one of the largest manufactured goods in town.

A Small-Town Sense Of Community:

This small city has many residents who love their town and find it to be friendly with a small-town sense of community. A large portion of this community is made up of families and younger professionals.

Woodland is extremely proud of there history and is celebrated on a yearly basis with its stroll through history. There are guided walking tours through the historic areas of Woodland as well as a chance to view old machinery and visit some of the historic Victorian homes.

Things To Do In Woodland:

Despite its small-town feel Woodland still has a good deal of things to do.

There are several small parks scattered about town. There are also a couple of malls, various eating establishments that run from sit down restaurants to fast-food restaurants, and even food trucks. There are also a couple of movie theaters and the residents say that the city does have some nice clubs offering a bit of nightlife.

The downtown area of Woodland has gone under some renovations making the area more attractive. In addition, the downtown area has some beautiful Victorian homes and a pretty lively Main Street. There is a lot of local produce to have, and farmer’s markets throughout most of the year.

Art is big in Woodland. Not only does the town sponsor a monthly art walk featuring local artists there are a number of murals displayed around town.

If you are looking to move to a city in California with a small-town feel close to a large city then Woodland may be the place to be.

The schools in Woodland fall under the Woodland Joint Unified School District.

This district serves 10 elementary schools, 1 charter school, 2 middle schools, 2 high schools, 1 continuation High School, and 1 Adult Education. There are also several high schools in the area. While the schools may not be ranked the highest in the state, there are a number of caring teachers that work hard to provide students with a quality education.

Climate And Weather In Woodland, CA:

Woodland has dry, hot, summers, and cool, relatively wet winters with their rainy season running from October and April and with the highest temperatures running around 95 degrees although much of the summer weather hits 90 degrees or higher.
