Union City, California is part of the San Francisco Bay area of Alameda County. The city was incorporated in 1959 and covers 19 square miles all of it land. John and William Horner who named the city after their steamship “The Union” that ran up and down the Sacramento River at that time founded Union City in 1850. Today the city has around 75,000 residences.
Union city is located near several bay area cities and only 19 miles from Oakland, 20 miles from San Jose and 30 miles from San Francisco.

Union City was a former railroad and steel town and today railroads are still prominent in the city. - City Center: The City Center is a neighborhood made up of lots of row houses, as well as studio, two, three and four-bedroom homes. This is a well-established community with many of the homes dating back to 1940-1969 as well as some newer homes as well. This is also a neighborhood that is very college-friendly and many college students rent residences in this neighborhood.
Union City schools are part of the New Haven Unified School District and the schools in this district are considered to be well above average. The school district consists of 7 (K-5) elementary schools, 2 middle schools (6-8) one high school and K-12 adult independent school.
